Your Trade Business on Social Media Without Spending Hours on It

Trades work is photogenic. The before-and-after story sells itself. But writing captions after a full day on site is where most tradespeople give up. Claude.ai handles the words. This post shows you how to produce a month of content in one Sunday afternoon.

Series: Claude.ai for Tradespeople | Post 7 of 12

Social media is the most underused marketing channel in the trades. The work is photogenic. The before-and-after story is universally compelling. The local audience is right there. Yet most trade businesses either post nothing at all, or post sporadically with long gaps which is almost as bad.

The reason is always the same: time. Sitting down to write a caption, come up with something interesting to say about a boiler installation, and figure out which hashtags to use. After a full day on site it isn't where most tradespeople's energy goes. Understandably.

Claude.ai changes the equation. You take the photos (you're probably doing that anyway). Claude.ai handles the words. A month of consistent social content in one sitting on a Sunday afternoon is entirely realistic.

Why Tradespeople Should Take Social Media Seriously

Your ideal customers, homeowners in your local area are on Facebook and Instagram every day. A consistent social media presence builds name recognition. When their boiler fails at 7am on a Monday and they need someone they've seen before, your name comes up first. When their friend asks in a local group for a reliable decorator, they think of the one they've been seeing posts from.

It's not about going viral. It's about being locally visible, consistently, over time. That's a different and far more achievable goal.

The Content Claude.ai Can Produce For You

Claude.ai can write captions, post copy, and hashtag sets. It cannot look at your photos, you'll need to describe what's in the photo, or paste in a brief description of the job.

The photos are your job. The words are Claude.ai's.

Prompt: Before-and-After Post

The most effective format in the trades. Every completed job is a before-and-after story.

Prompt: "I'm a [TRADE] based in [LOCATION/AREA]. I've just completed a job and taken before-and-after photos. Here's what the job involved:

Before: [DESCRIBE THE STARTING STATE]
After: [DESCRIBE THE FINISHED STATE]

Write me:
1. A Facebook caption (150–200 words) that tells the story of the transformation, mentions the customer's delight, and ends with a call to action to get in touch for a quote
2. An Instagram caption (80–100 words) with a punchier, more visual feel
3. A set of 10 relevant hashtags for Instagram (mix of local and trade-specific)

My business name is [NAME]. Keep the tone [PROFESSIONAL / CONVERSATIONAL / FRIENDLY]."

Prompt: Tips and Advice Post

Prompt: "I'm a [TRADE] and I want to post some helpful advice on [FACEBOOK/INSTAGRAM] for homeowners in [YOUR AREA]. Write me a post that gives 3 practical tips about [TOPIC]. Keep the tone helpful and plain and not salesy. End with a note that I'm available for a no-obligation consultation. My business name is [NAME]. Approximately 150 words."

Prompt: New Job Announcement

Prompt: "I'm about to start a new job in [AREA]. The job is a [BRIEF DESCRIPTION]. Write me a short, friendly social media post (for Facebook) letting local homeowners know I'm working in the area this week and am happy to chat to neighbours about any similar work they've been considering. Keep it light and approachable. No hard sell. My name is [NAME], [BUSINESS NAME]."

Prompt: Seasonal Reminder

Prompt: "Write me a seasonal social media post for [MONTH] reminding homeowners in [AREA] to [RELEVANT MAINTENANCE TASK]. Include a brief note about the risks of not doing it and end with an invitation to book in. My business name is [NAME], I'm a [TRADE] in [AREA]. Approximately 120 words. Keep it conversational."

Building a Month of Content in One Session

Step 1: List the jobs you completed in the last four weeks. Note a brief description of each.

Step 2: Pick four or five to turn into posts, the most visually interesting, the biggest transformations, the most relatable for homeowners.

Step 3: Run each through the before-and-after prompt above.

Step 4: Add one tips post and one seasonal reminder post.

Step 5: You now have six to seven posts. Schedule them one every four to five days using Meta Business Suite (free for Facebook and Instagram scheduling).

That's it. You're consistently visible every week without spending more than 45 minutes a month on it.

The Google Business Profile Addition

Don't neglect your Google Business Profile. It directly affects how often you appear in local searches ("plumber near me", "electrician in [town]").

Prompt: "Write me a Google Business Profile post for [BUSINESS NAME], a [TRADE] based in [LOCATION]. The post should describe a recently completed job: [BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION]. Include a call to action at the end. Keep it to 150 words. Use a tone that's professional and confident."

Post to your Google Business Profile once a week if possible. Twice a month at minimum. It costs nothing and directly improves local search visibility.
